If you have never visited Maine, be sure to put it on your "Must See" list!! The entire state is blessed with intense beauty from it's rocky coastline, inland countryside, lakes, streams, mountains and charming seaside towns. One town that has captured my heart is the quaint town of Camden. Nestled along the Penobscot Bay, this harbor town is full of old New England charm. Driving the backroads through the countryside and woodlands, down towards the coast is in itself a peaceful adenture. Once you come through Northport and Lincolnville, Camden is just minutes away. Your eyes are met with the beautiful sight of lovely traditional New England, Cape Cod homes that have been well loved, restored and maintained for years. Gardens of gorgeous blooms, majestic trees and forests, old time stone stacked fences line properties and a sence of serenity. A welcoming sight that says "come, sit a spell". As you come into Camden, you feel as if you are coming into another time and place that just pulls you in. High Street in Camden is lined with amazing shops, cozy restaurants and hotels. The Camden Library and it's grounds are breathtaking and plays host to various annual events though the summer months. The harbor park is where I love to sit and savor the beauty of Camden. With views of all the boats, schooners and windjammers that call Camden home, it's a place to just sit, enjoy a cup of coffee or lunch and watch the ducks and seagulls. After lunch, take a stroll around the town, in the shops or even reserve a spot onboard one of Camden's incredible schooner for an lovely sail. My favorite is the Schooner, Olad. She's a stunning two masted wooden vessel built in 1927 and launched in 1928 in Osterville, Mass. Her wonderful history over the years brought her into the ownership of Captain Aaron Lincoln in 2005. Captain Aaron is truyly amazing, he lovingly maintains the Olad and it's sibling The Owl. Sailing the Penobscot Bay's outter harbor, past Curtis Island Lighthouse and among the other vessels is like a dream you never want to wake up from. Captain Aaron and his crew provide a gentle but invigorating sail. After your sail, don't forget to take a drive up to Mount Battie in Camden State Park and bask in the view of Camden and its captivating harbor. Be sure to climb the stone tower for impeccable 360 view of the coastline and Maine's vast woodlands. The Mount Battie Memorial Tower was erected in 1921 in honor of the men and women of Camden, Maine who took part in World War I. Come see and experience the charm of Camden, Maine.
